welcome to my journal

this is going to be the place where i write out my heart and soul :D i likely won't get too deep or vent-y like some sites out there, so worry not. i'll likely just talk about my wins or some fun events! i look forward to seeing how this turns out :D

100k visits!! 06/15/25 19:06

holy shit?? what??? i was checking out my site today and realized my hit counter had reached 100k visits!!!! that's fucking insane!?!?!?!

i started this site at the beginning of this year to refresh my love for html, webdesign, and the indie web. i wanted to retake control over my place on the internet and make something that was truly mine, and i'm so glad to have come as far as i have! it's never been about the numbers to me here, but it's super cool to see that nearly 100 people find my site cool enough to want to keep up with it, and it's been visited nearly 100k times!!!

while i'm not as active updating this site as i ideally would like to be, i still enjoy coming onto nekoweb and seeing what other people are up to. every time i add someone to the fujoringout webring i poke around their site to see what crazy things people have done, and i get super inspired!!

through the indie web i have found colors tcg which is some of the most fun i've had in an online community in a while. what do you mean i get to collect pngs of my favorite little guys and then display them on my own website? collecting and making decks for some of my favorite, "lesser known" (relatively speaking) yaoi manga was super fun! and now i have all of those decks completed! it's great fun and you should definitely join.

i hope to do a little bit of a revamp soon: deltarune chapters 3 & 4 came out recently and have once again become my entire personality, so i would like my site to reflect that! i'll also likely be fixing up my undertale/deltarune shrine too, if i'm able to. i'd like to, but i've never been very good at making shrines, since actually Writing Down my thoughts is the hardest thing to me lololol.

anyways, this has gotten quite rambly, but i just wanted to hop on here and express how cool it feels to have 100k visits!!! i remember a couple of months ago i realized my site was on the first page of the nekoweb explore page when sorted by visits, and how crazy that moment felt. it feels just as crazy now! thank you all again for all the love and support you've shown this site!! here's to the indie web :D

the HIStory franchise 05/21/25 01:38

i was doing some housekeeping in my yaoi/bl shrine and rediscovered my HIStory franchise entry. it's quite the gem and i don't belive it deserves to be locked away in the depths of a shrine no one is going to read, so i'm also posting it here! i originally wrote this in may 2024. enjoy!

people who have been around in the bl circles for a bit have likely heard of the HIStory franchise. but what is this franchise, you may ask? well, to put it succinctly, it's a dumpsterfuck of a bl franchise, and also HIStory3: trapped.

all jokes aside, HIStory is a multi-part bl drama franchise that releases stand-alone bl dramas of varying quality. the first two HIStories were mini-series. with HIStory3: trapped came a new era of 10 50-minute episode long dramas, skyrocketing them up to similar runtimes as thai dramas.

as of the time of my writing this (may 2024), we are on HIStory5, but there are actually 9 individual shows.

i've always been fascinated by this franchise, especially since i adore HIStory3: trapped. i hope you enjoy my deep-dive as i explore how wild this franchise is.

HIStory 1&2

there are five of them

now. i actually haven't seen all of the three HIStory1 shows. i actually might have, but i've just forgotten because they're so lackluster. i'm grouping 1&2 together because they share the same vibes in my head. short, 1h20m runtime shows with very little going for them. except crossing the line she's my baby.

HIStory1

first up we have HIStory1: my hero. this one is bad in the funny way. a girl dies, possesses the lamest man ever, and has to make her old boyfriend fall in love with her as a guy or else she'll die forever. it's a wild synopsis i know, and it's even wilder if you watch it. it's only an hour and 20 mins, so if you have time to waste it's quite silly. watching on 2x speed might not be a bad idea.

coming in with a banger title is HIStory1: stay away from me. i love the direction this is taking (sarcasm). i remember i did watch this, but i don't know if i watched it all. i only remember it as a short, and it very much is not a short; it is a full movie length (a short movie, but a movie nonetheless). the gist is that a random guy tries to make two stepbrothers fall in love. it works . i'm pretty sure it's dubiously consentual, but i don't care to review my source (the source material).

wrapping up the first HIStory is HIStory: obsessed. this is one i'm certain i never watched, but i'm told the story is that a guy stuck in a time loop keeps dying in a car accident and tries very hard to stop falling for the same guy, who causes him to die in all of these car accidents. i can't tell you any more because i know nothing.

HIStory2

finally some good food! HIStory2: crossing the line is for all you haikyuu fans out there. it's a volleyball romance, baby!! the general story is that a rambunctious teen is forced to join the vollyball team, where he meets the cool, calm, and collected team manager. sparks fly, etc etc. i love this show and it's great and cheesy and dumb and perfect. except... for the side couple. we'll get there. side couples are a common sentiment amongst the HIStory franchise.

after that brief, tolerable intermission, we are back in the trenches. HIStory2: right or wrong is titled pretty well, because it's wrong. glad to help! i haven't seen it though so i could be vastly misjudging it. all i know is i believe it's a teacher student relationship? but anyways a full grown man with an 8 year old kid falls for a college student so do what you want with that information i suppose.

overall

i think you get the gist of the 1&2 series. they're lackluster, poorly thrown together, and milk tropes and scandalous themes to rake in that good good fujocoin. they are low-budget and poorly produced, but somehow managed to rake in enough of that good good fujocoin to produce the rest of the HIStory franchise, which blew up in production quality, length, and tolerability!

HIStory3

there are two of them

HIStory3 is where things really start to pick up. there are two shows under the HIStory3 label: trapped and make our days count. they both are 10 episodes of 50 minutes each, and are a significant quality upgrade from the previous HIStory installations.

HIStory3: trapped

I already talked in length about HIStory3: trapped in the hall of fame, so go check that out for actually coherent information about this masterpiece.

when i say that the flip from HIStory2 to HIStory3: trapped is of astronomical proportions, you just have to take my word for it. it's crazy how much of a 180 occurred. from a mediocre 5/10 rating to being featured on my hall of fame list?! what happened?! i genuinely cannot tell you what happened i too am baffled.

HIStory 3: trapped is a nuanced story about a cop and an ex-mafia boss falling in love. it sounds cheesy but it's pulled off relatively well! the relationship is mature, and instead of drama revolving around fighting each other, they face the trials and tribulations of being a cop and ex-mafia boss together. how cute. and get this, the side couple isn't even that bad! they're a little weird, sure, but nothing morally reprehensible! a win for the community!

HIStory3: make our days count

pay attention to that fucking title... unfortunately, it appears that HIStory3: trapped was the peak of HIStory, and we will only ever go downhill from there. farewell 2019, you will be missed. while make our days count is no where near the shitty quality of 1&2, it unfortunately falls short of our favorite masterpiece trapped. this is an unfortunate trend that continues throughout the rest of the HIStory franchise as we know it.

HIStory3: make our days count follows two high school students who fall into an unlikely relationship with each other. they get together around halfway through the show, and a majority of the late-show problems focus on them facing the trials and tribulations of being gay high school seniors togther. overall, a very cute show! just ignore the last episode and the last 5 minutes of the penultimate episode, and you'll be fine. also. the side couple. yes. it's the return of "except for the side couple". hold onto your pantsuits we're almost there.

HIStory4

only one! we made it!

of the non-HIStory3: trapped installments of this franchise, HIStory4: close to you is my favorite, hands down. don't get me wrong, it's by no means fantastic, but by golly was it entertaining.

HIStory4: close to you is about three friends who work together. one tries to hit on a female coworker who just so happens to be a fujoshi by… pretending to be into one of his male friends. little weird but he comes around by acctually falling for said male friend. listen dude you got too close to fujo magic it's powerful.

anyways, the relationship is over-dramaticized and goofy, but if you look at it as camp, you're good to go. i think it's dumb as hell but it's entertaining so who gives a shit. it's a fine show. except... for the side couple.

history5

ok sin time. i never finished this installment. i watched it as it came out then just genuinely forgot i was watching it each week. if that's not indicitive of its quality i don't really know what else to say.

HIStory5: love in the future has an interesting concept, but they failed in the execution. the idea is that this one guy from the year 2000 gets transported to 2020 and has to learn how to live in the future. he ends up falling love with someone in the future, then has to grapple with whether or not he should stay.

if you didn't tell me it was a romance, i would not have thought that the main couple were supposed to end up together. their chemistry is so bad it's called physics. the execution of the gimmick isn't even that good, so i understand past me accidentally dropping it. if you're looking for a bad waste of time, here's your answer! it's a shame that they wasted a mediocre (not morally reprehesnible!) side couple on this show, though. i would have appreciated it in HIStory4...

so what's up with the side couples??

i'm so glad you asked! i've compiled a cute little list below for your viewing pleasure. hopefully that clears everything up!

  1. (CtL) they are step brothers!
  2. (MoDC) one is a high schooler and the other is 30!
  3. they are step brothers (again! third step brother use!) and one is coerced into the relationship!
  4. boss employee (ON THE UP AND UP!! a win)

my biggest gripe with the addition of the strange side couples is that most of the time they add nothing to the story. they appear for like five seconds, perform something problematic, then disappear. this is not the case for 4&5, where they take up around 30-40% of screentime, meaning more meaningless fluff for me to skip to get back to the main couple. i love me some toxic yaoi but felonies aren't really my cup of tea.

i hope you enjoyed my ramblings about this franchise. i find it fascinating how something can be simultaneously so good and also so bad at once. it's not even an issue with directors, at least not for the 1&2 jump to 3. i'm just genuinely baffled and i hope i have throughougly baffled and unbaffled you as well.

layout switchup 05/13/25 23:08

so you may have noticed my Quite Major layout switch up that's occurred this past week. you may also be wondering "HALE!!! why did you change your layout????!?!?!? monitoring was SOOO COOOLLLL" and boy howdy do i have an answer for you!!! drumroll please ... i felt like it!!!

in all honesty, there are actually a couple reasons i changed the layout:

  • all the motion lagged out the site (no good)
  • i don't love iframes anymore
  • i hadn't changed anything about it in MONTHS and i wanted something new
  • the aesthetic didn't line up with what i wanted to do with my site anymore
  • there are some site i've seen that i really love the look of and inspired me to get back into coding!! i've listed them in my credits page
  • i've been hyperfixating on milgram and they have a lot of pngs lmao

i felt pretty restricted by my old theme and didn't find myself pulling up vscodium to do anything other than colors tcg (which is SOOO fun btw you should def join!). i want to get back into curating my site (especially since i came back to HOLY MOLY so many views.... ) so i did what i knew would get me back into it: coding everything from scratch!

i can say it was a very rewarding experience :D my first layout took me a few days to make, the second as well. this most recent one was done in just a day! i do think it's because it is quite simple, but also it is coded much better as well, which i do think has something to do with it.

i've been working on improving my dev skills while i play my silly card game so to be able to come back with so much more experience gathered over the course of a few months was very refreshing. i really feel like i have a good grasp over html and css, and while my js is Very lackluster i know my way around it enough to do some simple things (like my yaoi shrine's windows! i coded those mostly by myself except for the draggable code. but! once again very proud of myself. great fun!

i got a little side-tracked omg. i felt restricted and stuck on one track with my previous layout. this one, however, is super customizable! since my interests change so much, i fear commitment with a certain theme. with this, however, it's very easy to switch it up. i have it set up so i can set a bunch of color variables and set each page's accent to any color i want. i can also swap out all the images very easily. if in a few weeks (or even days lets face it) i get more interested in something Other than milgram, i will be able to change everything out super quick!

i've already started branching out from milgram. my about page is cherry magic themed, simply because i had a lot of manga caps laying around in my downloads from when i read it last week :D i'm thinking of making another page seven days themed, and maybe kaworu will make an apperance. who's to say! not i! that's the beauty of pawpyrus.art 3.0!

goodness me i've rambled for so long... well i'm super glad to have a new layout (even if this journal about it is rather late) and i'm looking forwards to making all new pages to fill it out!

interview with the vampire pt.1 thougts!02/23/25 23:24

my friends and i are doing a book club for interview with the vampire by anne rice because one of my friends is particularly autistic about it... and hoo boy is it interesting. i can understand my friend's autism.

we just finished watching the first three episodes of the newer show and... it's an interesting diversion from the book. we only read part 1 and decided to watch the first few episodes bc the entirety of the first season is just .. part 1 .. so its a good place to start and keep us interested you know?

lestat is such an interesting character i think he's my favorite <:3 there's definitely a lot he's not letting on or telling louis and then by extension not telling us the readers. which is a fascinating writing choice i love it a lot. anne rice is very good with this ambiguous character motivation that we can't really see just yet. but im super excited for the vampire lestat because we get more of his internal world :3

the way the first three episodes differed from the book were also very interesting... my friends and i all discussed how the show makers probably thought a few changes wouldnt be tooooo big of a deal but they actually have CRAZY consequences and implications for the story as a whole.

anyways sooo super excited for the next episodes and also the next part <:3

new blog layout! 02/20/25 10:53

wow... nearly a month since my last blog post... oopsies!!!

anyways, i saw that had made a new blog layout, and checked out what she was inspired by! i found turd's blog and loooooved the way it worked, so i decided to do something similar.

i really like how this works a lot better than my old blog, so i'll likely be updating this a lot more. yippee!! great success!

honestly that's it for now. this isn't a very exciting update... lololol

oh wait!!!! i also saw turd's music log, and as a BIG BIG BIG music guy, i also thought i would do something similar to that. possibly my next project :3

i made a webring! 01/23/25 16:24

Since I've finished most of the building blocks of my site and now its just small touch ups here and there (and also finishing up some of my projects cough classpectingcough) I decided to see if I could make a webring! So, I did!

Its title is FujoRing Out and its a webring for fujos! And also fudanshis, himejoshis and himedanshis too! I think I'm very clever for the title. You know. Like. Fujoing out. Fujo...ring... out... yeah I'm clever.

It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be! But of course it did have its difficult moments. I ussed onionring for the base and fiddled around with everything until I thought it looked perfect! And it is perfect: you can see it live on my home page.

Mostly I just wanted something to practice and thought that FujoRing Out would be a perfect starting place since it's quite a niche topic for a webring and mostly just for fun. I learned a lot, though, so I'll likely make more webrings in the future! They're a lot of fun and also I get to make new webpages for them hehe. An excuse to start from scratch every time! That's my favorite thing about webdev, is making New things. It's great fun, really!

Alright, that's all I had to say on that topic. Making a WebRing was fun! I hope to do it again soon.
